The Sift Minecraft Mod Guide: Java & Bedrock

Cover: Community Java mod screenshot · Mielon

The official vanilla Sift is still planned for 2027, but several community projects already recreate the dimension. This page compares the most visible Java mods and Bedrock add-ons without confusing their portal rules, mobs, or biomes with Mojang's future release.

Is There a The Sift Mod for Minecraft?

YES

Yes. Multiple community projects now recreate The Sift for Minecraft, but they are independent interpretations. The most established Java option we found is Mielon's The Sift, while Bedrock players have community add-ons such as The Sift Dimension | Add-On.

None of these downloads is Mojang's 2027 vanilla implementation. A mod can be useful if you want to explore an interpretation today, but its portal, biomes, mobs, items, and balance can differ from both Dungeons II and the future official version.

Mielon's The Sift

A large community interpretation with its own Sift dimension, terrain, weather, mobs, Ichor, temporary rifts, and an Ancient City portal sequence.

WHAT IT ADDS

More than a visual reskin

The current project page describes 10 biomes, custom terrain generation, an animated sky, independent weather, Soul Canyons, Sniffer Caves, Ichor lakes, Siftslate, new mobs, and temporary rifts connecting the dimension with the Overworld.

Author's own note: the project explicitly says it is not an exact replica of Dungeons II. Treat every mechanic here as mod-specific unless Mojang separately confirms it.

How the Mielon Mod Opens the Ancient City Portal

The Ancient City theory is especially easy to confuse with vanilla Minecraft because this mod intentionally builds its entrance around the Reinforced Deepslate frame. Its current CurseForge documentation says the sequence works like this:

01

Go to an Ancient City

The mod adds Sonorous Deepslate blocks in front of the Reinforced Deepslate frame.

02

Play a Goat Horn

A Singer appears and awakens the custom Sonorous Deepslate blocks.

03

Place and tune Note Blocks

The mod assigns custom Sift notes. Its project page provides a specific note sequence that opens the portal.

04

Enter the mod's Sift

Once the custom activation succeeds, the Ancient City frame opens into that mod author's version of the dimension.

This is not a vanilla tutorial. Mojang has not confirmed that the 2027 Java or Bedrock Sift will use Ancient Cities, Goat Horns, Note Blocks, or the Reinforced Deepslate frame.

BEDROCK · BETA

The Sift Dimension | Add-On

This CurseForge Bedrock project describes itself as a beta recreation of the dimension. Its current files target multiple modern Bedrock versions and use separate behavior/resource packs.

DIFFERENT PORTAL

Its Ancient City rule is its own

The add-on's documentation says players use the Ancient City portal area and activate its version of the entrance. That is different from Mielon's Note Block sequence and different again from Dungeons II's official rifts.

This is exactly why “how to enter The Sift” guides must identify the edition and project before listing steps.

Other Sift Mods You May See

Moon Bear's SiftA NeoForge community mod for Minecraft 26.1.2 with a recreated dimension, mobs, and ruined portals. Its page is much smaller than Mielon's project, so verify compatibility before installing.
The Sift Dimension by k.o.e.A newer NeoForge 1.21.1 project inspired by Dungeons II. It is an independent recreation and currently has a much smaller install base.
Sift Backport projectsSeveral small projects use commands or simplified portals to make a Sift-like dimension available early. Their names and mechanics are not evidence of Mojang's final design.

How to Choose a Sift Mod Safely

01

Match your exact Minecraft version

Do not assume a 26.3 file works on 1.21.1 or vice versa. Read the file list, not just the project title.

02

Match the loader

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Bedrock add-ons use different installation systems. Download the file made for your setup.

03

Check dependencies

Mielon's current builds may require Fabric API or GeckoLib depending on version. Read the project's Relations / Requirements section before launching.

04

Back up worlds

Dimension and world-generation mods can affect saves. Test in a fresh or backed-up world, especially after updates.
